Theme-based Hikes
Hiking trails along the river Sieg
The Natursteig Sieg features 16 experience paths, which run for between five and 25 kilometres and as circular routes. You will hike on paths that are characterised by peacefulness and water. The hiking paradise surrounding the dam appears beautifully Nordic, whilst anyone who would like things to be a bit livelier, will probably enjoy the many treasures both large and small by the side of the route on the cultural countryside path

Hiking in Siebengebirge
Hiking in the Siebengebirge between Königswinter and Bad Honnef
Vineyards are reason enough alone to come to Königswinter, Bad Honnef and Unkel. Hikers have an almost continuous view to the Rhine and soon realise why people have travelled through this landscape for over 200 years to experience the magic of this region.
Hiking is a particularly enjoyable way of discovering the Siebengebirge. The gehdochmal.de
portal shows the major routes, the famous, popular inns and also describes less well-known paths, which promise a very special experience.

Rotweinwanderweg (hiking in the vineyards)
The Rotweinwanderweg passes through the vineyards in the Ahrtal
On this walk you can still look over the wine-growers' shoulders during the grape harvest. The red wine hiking path in the Ahrtal offers beautiful routes right through the vineyard terraces with fantastic views. The picturesque hiking path runs from Altenahr near Bad Bodendorf, is 35 kilometres long and links the wine-growing villages above the romantic river bed of the Ahr. All the villages are directly connected to the hiking path and anyone who wants to stop for a drink or a break will find their way to the next wine-growing village by going down the relevant path. There cosy wine bars, amazing wine cellars and famous co-operatives are waiting for hikers and wine lovers.

Hiking in the area around the Drachenfels
The Rodderberg is a very special geographical rarity, as it is the oldest volcano in Western Europe dating back 13,000 years. It was already placed under nature preservation in 1927 in order to preserve the increasingly rare areas of tuff (volcanic stone) and the characteristic dry lawn with unusual plants and animal species. The centre of the volcano is where horses now graze. Well-signposted hiking paths lead through this interesting geological area. Rolandsbogen is easy to reach from here and the reward is a beautiful view to the Siebengebirge and the Rhine valley.
Other theme-based hikes describe nature-based and cultural paths on the left of the Rhine in the Rhine-Sieg district or for example lead along the old Roman aqueduct through the region.
Roman canal hiking path
Hiking from the Eifel to the Rhineland
On this hiking path you will find out about the relics of the major structure from Roman times. The Roman canal hiking path runs for approx. 116 km next to the former Roman aqueduct from the Eifel to the Rhineland and provides information on 50 new information panels about Roman relics.
The hiking path is divided into 7 sections and starts in Nettersheim in the Eifel. As well as the excavated de-silting works, you can also discover a reconstructed well house with 3 of the original 12 arches. Your hiking card can be stamped at the refreshment stops which are listed on the website www.roemerkanal.de. You will also find some photos and detailed descriptions of the various sections there.
