Global businesses and finance companies such as Deutsche Telekom AG, Deutsche Post DHL, Deutsche Postbank AG or Solar World have their Group headquarters in Bonn. Other companies in the region include Haribo, Verpoorten, BWI Informationstechnik or Mannstaedt. They create a modern environment for highly qualified service companies and workers.

The University of Bonn (Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität) with about 28,000 students has enjoyed an international reputation since 1818, as has the Bonn-Rhein-Sieg University of Applied Sciences which was founded in 1995 with approximately 6,600 students. In addition, the International University of Applied Sciences Bad Honnef and Alanus University enjoy an excellent reputation. Innovative research facilities such as CAESAR (Center of Advanced European Studies and Research), the Fraunhofer-Institute or the German Aerospace Center (DLR) together with more than 200 institutions from science and technology are based in the Bonn region.
