Many Baroque buildings date back to the time when Bonn was the place of residence of the Electors. The Beethoven House, the house where the musician was born, is now a museum and tells stories from the life of the world famous composer. Politics took centre stage in Bonn for more than four decades. The history of the Bonn Republic can be experienced at many authentic locations in the Bonn region. For exampleAdenauer's residence, Willy Brandt's office, Palais Schaumburg, Villa Hammerschmidt or the former plenary chamber present authentic historical insights into the political history of the region.

The Bonn region is regarded as the gateway to the romantic Rhine with the Siebengebirge mountains and Drachenfels shrouded in legend.. The newly created Drachenfels mountain plateau can be reached with the Drachenfels Railway. Halfway up Schloss Drachenburg, which has been restored beautifully, soars majestically.

Cyclists and walkers will find a wide range of leisure activities on offer in the neighbouring Siegtal with its seemingly untouched natural environment as well as in the red wine area of with its wildly romantic steep slopes and rock spurs.
