Summer toboggan run
The summer toboggan run in Altenahr is an attractive destination for the whole family. The lift pulls the toboggan 200 meters up the mountain. From the top, the sleds roll in a stainless steel tub through seven fast curves over 500 meters down into the valley. The brake makes the ride an adventure not only for fast-paced riders, but also for leisurely ones. Those who prefer to watch the tobogganers take a seat in the beautiful beer garden.
Maria Laach
The high medieval monastery complex (1093-1216) was built as a foundation of the Salian King Henry II and his wife Adelheid. The six-towered building stands out especially for its elaborately designed west entrance. This entrance, also called Paradise in this form, is unique north of the Alps. Together with the restored cloister, the abbey is considered one of the most beautiful monuments of Romanesque architecture in Germany.
Due to its beautiful location on the shores of Lake Laach, the Benedictine abbey attracts tourists, especially in summer, with boat rentals, camping, fishing, as well as the large lakeside hotel. In addition, there is a book and art publishing house, a garden center and various handicraft businesses, in which training is also offered (blacksmith's shop, sculpture shop, bell foundry, carpenter's shop).
